Spring Recess STEAM Program at Learning Lab
Learning Lab’s Spring Recess STEAM Program is a great opportunity for kids to stay engaged in learning and have a ton of fun at the same time during spring recess. Days consist of activities that tie together all the components of STEAM as well as literacy. Each day, children will be presented with a real-world challenge. They will then work as part of a team to identify problems, develop possible solutions, and test and evaluate solutions. They will also complete related activities that incorporate science, technology, art, math, and literacy.
Dates: 4/2 - 4/5
9:00am - 3:00pm (early drop-off (8am) and late pick-up (5pm) available)
Cost: $55 per day or $200 for all four days ($5/day for early drop-off and $10/day for late pick-up)
Schedule
8:00 - 9:00 Early drop-off – Children will get a chance to share their favorite books with other children and browse from our collection of books.
9:00 - 9:30 Ice breakers – Children will get to know each other through games and team-building activities.
9:30 - 10:00 Introduction to the challenge – Looking at the criteria and constraints and complete guided investigations to better understand the problem.
10:00 - 10:30 Brainstorming and planning – Children will work with a team to come up with possible solutions and plan out a promising solution.
10:30 - 11:00 Building the prototype – Children will work with a team to build a prototype that they can test.
11:00 - 12:00 Testing and evaluating - Children will test their prototype and evaluate it based on the criteria.
12:00 - 1:00 Lunch (Lunch will not be provided - please send your child with a lunch)
1:00 - 2:00 Math activities – Children will complete fun math activities that relate to the challenge.
2:00 - 3:00 Art activity – Children will participate in an art activity that relates to the challenge.
3:00 - 4:00 Board games (Late pick up)
4:00 - 5:00 Lego activities (Late pick up)
